Marcus Nasty has set about reforming his weekly show on Rinse FM to take it to another level. He’s mastered the 2 hour solo mix up, he’s mastered the ample helping of MCs, so now Marcus Nasty is setting his sights higher once again with that constant drive of ambition that has got him the recognition he has held for a while up until the present day…..“What is it?” I can hear you asking….. Well lets just say, you’ll have to listen and hear!! (see what I did there?)
There were various reports flying around of the happenings on the night…. Unfortunately I wasn’t there, but with modern day technology, information can be passed so easily, it’s not too much of a task to know what’s up……
The turn out wasn’t too bad and more than many had expected……
The age range was more on the lower end of the scale however, but with music that’s never a bad thing…. Influencing the youth of today and being able to put on a performance they’re happy with is something that is and was very hard to find in previous homegrown genres i.e. Grime
Play Entertainment are rumoured to have put on a good show as did many of the other acts that were on the bill namely Gracious K, Shea Soul, Egypt and Donaeo, proving that there is an abundance of talent within the UK Funky scene at the moment that are making a major impact for the UK within the music business.
Other than the performances from 26 acts, there was also an award ceremony…………
The Awards collected on the night were as follows:
Best Male – Donaeo
Best Female – Egypt
Best Producer – Ill Blu
Best Song – Migraine Skank (Gracious K)
Best Video – Tribal Skank (Fr3e)
There is talk that Quincy won ‘Best Funky DJ’ – I refuse to take this seriously, it must be a misunderstanding?? Surely they just thanked him for his participation and hard work in providing music for the night…….. That’s correct right??

I’m feeling the production on this one, it’s more than on point. FunkyStepz have been making some good quality productions which have been on a few official compilations from Ministry of Sound presents: The Sound of UK Funky to the forthcoming Rinse: 10 – Marcus Nasty compilation.
I felt a little let down on the lyrical content however. L.A. Cartier made herself known within the UK Funky scene with her previous track Call Me, produced by Fuzzy Logik and Riskgo is very known on the circuit. The talent within this three-way collaboration is more than evident, however the song-writing could’ve been nurtured a little bit more to give it that extra all round perfect delivery.
What do you think?
Funky Dee thought he had the scene in his pockets….. The streams of people chanting his hook “Are you gonna bang?” was phenomenal….. Surely there couldn’t be a higher response for a hook than we saw with that??
It seems there is…… Funky Dee never got familiar enough on how volatile the Funky scene is…. His time at the top may be drawing to a close…..
Lady P has unleashed an anthem for the females titled “Are you gonna N’yam?” and I have to admit, the lyrics are very comical including every saying used on the scene most obvious being Gracious K’s “Show me how you go down!”….. But the funniest thing is that Funky Dee is upset about the track and claims he’s gonna sue!! I have to wonder how, considering that his track was unofficially over Apple’s Chantes instrumental….. Interesting! I wonder if he is aware on how copyright laws work…….
Seems like Funky Dee is setting himself up “He’ll get NOTHING!!”
Check out Lady P’s parody…….
Everyone who is into the UK underground music scene knows about the Rinse Compilation releases. Supa D’s Rinse 03 Release also concentrated heavily on the UK Funky scene bringing the sound at that time to the fore front whilst also boosting Supa D’s profile outside of the club circuit.
In this instance, that isn’t the case. Marcus Nasty is a DJ that has received the most recognition of the scene having been named the ‘Godfather’ as well as the ‘King’.
With present homage on Rinse FM the most recognised pirate station, it only right the latest release hold the collaboration of both the leaders.
